Pepper Spray-The Three Common Types of Delivery

Most people don't give pepper spray much consideration. All they know is that it is one of the most popular and effective nonlethal self-defense tools for both civilians and law enforcement. Did you know that every letter carrier in the country carries a pepper spray as his first line of defense against dog attacks? And every law enforcement officer in the country carries a pepper spray. Law enforcement officers have different objectives for carrying pepper sprays than civilians do. They have other means at their disposal for subduing their target. Civilians on the other hand must rely almost exclusively on the self-defense product at their disposal. A self defense pepper spray can disable an assailant for up to 45 minutes giving you time to escape. The three most common types of delivery of defensive sprays are; a stream or spray, foam or gel. The stream or spray method of delivery is by far the most common. Since most pepper sprays are used outdoors they are subject to windy or rainy conditions. A fine mist is okay for a target that's less than 10 feet away if there's no wind. Most streams or sprays have a range of no more than 10 or 12 feet. A foam or a gel both coat the face of the assailant. His first reaction is to rub it away. All that does is irritate the skin even, more causing more pain. Pepper foam produces less fumes and is great for indoor security. It blinds an attacker and will not blow-back. A pepper gel holds up better in windy conditions. And because it comes out in a gel it has a range as far as 18 to 20 feet. It also has less risk of cross contamination. All of these delivery methods can be used indoors. But there can be collateral damage to you and others nearby so beware. Every situation is different so it's impossible to know which one is best. Only you can decide!!
