Here’s a story from one of the leading newspapers in Toronto, Canada that explains in detail how tasers work.
“A Taser works by delivering high voltage — but low amperage — to the human body. A Taser delivers a powerful but temporary shock rather than a sustained and deadly charge.”
You can read the whole story HERE.
“The electricity sends signals to the central nervous system, causing pain and muscle contractions. Most victims fall down, which is why it’s used to subdue people in police altercations.”
The story goes on to explain • Two probes can be fired up to 10.6 metres, although most police operate a model that travels only 7.6 metres. These probes attach to the body, creating an electrical circuit.
• The probes emit 19 pulses per second, and each charge lasts for about five seconds.
• When fired, a Taser can emit an initial charge of up to 50,000 volts. By the time it comes in contact with the body, the charge is usually diminished to about 1,800 volts.
The Taser X 26C is the most popular type of Taser sold in Canada.
