This is a story about police officers and others getting training in the use of an electronic control device (ECD) called a taser. Police officers are actually required to get this training.

“A red dot shines on the target, the trigger is pulled and a single “pop” sounds. Wires with barbed probes replace a bullet as electricity surges with repetitious snaps.
Upon skin contact, the probes fire electricity and 30 to 40 pieces of pinhead-sized paper come rushing out of the Taser, a brand name often used to describe conducted electrical weapons, or CEWs. The miniscule pieces of paper contain the serial number of the cartridge that was fired. It may sound simple, but like any other weapon, training produces better use.”
Taser’s are used by over 17,000 law enforcement agencies across the country. Several years ago Taser international took that technology and transferred it into a smaller version for civilians.
That version is called the Taser C 2. It does the same thing that law enforcement agencies tasers do but with fewer features and a shorter shooting range. Some police models have ranges up to 35 feet, while the C2 and other civilian versions only 15 feet but it can disable an assailant with near 100% effectiveness same as the police models.
