How do stun guns work: A stun gun is an electrical self-defense device that uses high voltage to stop an attacker. Simply touching a person with the prongs on the stun gun will quickly immobilize them. Stun Guns are totally non-lethal self defense weapons that cause no serious or permanent injury. The Stun Gun is used by police departments around the world.

Stungun effects: Stun Guns or taser guns are designed to key on a persons central nervous system. It dumps it’s energy into the muscles at a high pulse frequency that makes the muscles work very rapidly, but not efficiently. This rapid work cycle depletes blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid all in just seconds. The resulting energy loss makes it difficult to move and function. At the same time, the tiny neurological impulses that travel throughout the body to direct muscle movement are interrupted. This causes disorientation and loss of balance and leaves the attacker in a passive and confused condition for several minutes. Still, there is no significant effect on the heart and other organs.

As a general rule, a one-half second contact from a stun gun will repel and startle the attacker, giving some pain and muscle contraction. One to two seconds will cause muscle spasms and a dazed mental state. Over three seconds will cause loss of balance and muscle control, mental confusion and disorientation.

However, you should not think about how many seconds you should hold a it to your attacker. Think about it this way. Throw out what the books say and the online information you have read. You should hold your weapon to the assailant until they drop and you can get away and call the police, whether that may be one second or five seconds.

What is the difference between the 80,000 volt model and the 625,000 you might ask? Think of it this way, both will render your assailant helpless, but you might have to hold the 80,000 volt Talon mini a second or two longer than the 625,000 volt Stunmaster. Consider this. All models are effective on most all parts of the body. But give yourself the best chance to get the best of your attacker. Hold the it on a body part that has a lot of surface area, such as the chest, abdomen, groin, kidneys, back, etc. An area such as the arm or leg will work fine, but these body parts do not allow you the same amount of surface area that you will need to contact for a few seconds.

Stun Batons are most effective when you need to have some distance between yourself and the person you are attempting to stun. The high voltage and extended reach of the stun baton combine to provide an effective weapon and a deterrent against attack. By maintaining your distance, you have a tactical advantage in that they will have a hard time getting close to you. The sight and sound of your firing the stun baton in the air can be intimidating enough to an attacker and they may choose to go on to an easier target.

One thing to consider when carrying any self defense weapon is to protect the weapon from getting into the hands of your assailant. There are two lengths: 16 inches for the 300,000 volt and 20 inches for the 500,000 to 800,000 volt models. You should consider the extra reach you'll need or want and also how comfortable it'll be to carry the chosen length. In either case, the holster will be invaluable when carrying for extended periods.
