There is a new law before the California General Assembly that would change the way rapes on or near college campuses are reported.

One of the big problems, in our opinion, is that sexual assaults on college campuses have typically been handled by on campus personnel with no outside interference from local police. This has led to a a plethora of problems all designed to protect the reputation of the University at the expense of the victims.

This new law would require that all sexual assaults on or near college campuses be handled by local police departments leaving the universities completely out of the process. We hope that this passes in California and further that it spreads throughout the country. But don’t underestimate the power of the political machine that colleges and universities generate.

The sponsor of the bill said he expects a tough fight over the bill — just about every member of the legislature has a major university in their district.

In the meantime, the best way the females on a campus can defend themselves is with a self-defense product such as pepper spray or stun gun.

We like the pink SMACK Stun Gun because it has 5 million volts and is so small it has a keychain attachment.
