One of the victims was punched in the parking lot of a Denny’s restaurant will another occurred outside Campisi’s.

The purpose of the knockout game is to attack someone and knock them out in one punch. They are completely random and can happen during daylight or evening hours. They started in New York about three weeks ago as the knockout game but a variation of this is been around for two decades.

“The FBI describes the “knockout game” as an assault with the aim to incapacitate an unsuspecting victim with one punch. The disturbing trend dates back to 1992. Although victims are usually selected on the basis of race, age seems to be a common theme as well.”

Police note that this is not a “game” and that perpetrators can be charged with a federal hate crime which elevates the seriousness of the assault. The attacks occur with such speed that victims often are not able to identify their assailants. This forces police to rely on witnesses which are few and far between.
