Why You Should Use A Hidden Diversion Safe

Here are some very good reasons why you should use a hidden diversion safe. The biggest reasons are they are just as effective as and a lot less expensive than a regular floor or wall safe.

The facts are that a burglar will spend 10 minutes or less, on average, according to a Chicago Police Department study, inside your home looking for items of value. They are primarily looking for smaller items that can be quickly and easily pawned for cash.

Yes, occasionally you will hear about burglars walking out with big-screen TVs and other larger items, but since most burglars work by themselves those items are too bulky for one person to carry. So they are looking for cash, credit cards, small collectibles, jewelry and even handguns-all items that are easy to carry, easy to pawn and convert into quick cash.

A hidden diversion safe is nothing more than a common household product-usually a kitchen or bathroom product-which everyone is used to seeing. The only difference is that it has a hollowed out interior to hide these small valuable items. The top or the bottom usually is a screw on apparatus and the product is weighted to make it feel like the real thing.

The whole idea behind a hidden diversion safe is to “hide things in plain sight.” Knowing that a burglar can only spend a minimal amount of time inside a home, he cannot look everywhere. As a matter of fact, one of the last places he looks is in the kitchen or bathroom. Who would think that mama’s jewelry would be hidden inside a can of Ajax?

There are several ways you can improve your home security to prevent burglary. But if you want to protect your small valuables from the prying eyes and hands of a burglar, hide them in plain sight using one of our hidden safes

Diversion Safes-Product Review

In today’s blog post we’re doing product reviews of diversion safes. What are diversion safes?

The best way to describe them is as innocent looking, common household products such as food containers, cleaning products or soda cans with hollowed out interiors that are big enough to hold items such as cash and credit cards, jewelry, small collectibles and in some cases handguns.

Some good examples are this Maxwell House Coffee Diversion Safe that has an interior department of 3″ x 3.5″. The container is weighted to give it the feel of the real thing and of course it has the exterior look of the famous tin of Maxwell House coffee. Burglars spend on average 10 minutes inside a home on their burglarizing so you have no chance to look everywhere which is what the appeal is for diversion safes – “hiding things in plain sight.”

Another example is this Outdoor Diversion Safe that can be used to hide keys. No more getting locked out of the house.

Favorite Targets Of Home Burglars

Reedley, California is located approximately 22 miles south of Fresno and is just slightly above middle-class America with a relatively young population which means they are working people. That area has received a rash of home burglaries in the last couple of weeks.

In only one instance did burglars need to use force to break-in. The other burglaries were through unlocked doors or windows. All burglaries happen during the daytime when no one was at home except in one instance when a 50-year-old woman was inside the house-she managed to scare them away.

In every case cash and jewelry was taken and in some instances firearms were stolen. In one case a TV was taken.

The reason we are highlighting these cases is because they are excellent examples of what not to do. Obviously number one is to lock all your doors and windows even when you’re not home. A home burglary occurs every 13 seconds in the United States. A scary statistic is that less than 13% of all burglaries ever get cleared by the Police Department. So it’s a high reward and low risk enterprise.

And don’t think for one minute that burglars don’t “case” their targets. They do their homework and look for homes that appear to be affluent with no visible sign of a security system or other deterrents to do in their burglary.

Burglary Prevention – Home Security Tips You Can Use

It should be absolutely no surprise to anyone that burglary is such a popular crime with the bad guys. Here are some of the reasons why and some tips you can use to prevent burglary in your house and improve your home security.

Why Burglary Is So Popular

  1. The average value of goods taken in a home burglary is close to $2100 in smaller, easy to pawn, high-value products such as jewelry, handguns, rifles, cash and credit cards. Other items such as collectibles are high-value targets as well.
  2. Home burglary is a low risk enterprise. The average time a burglar spends in a home is 10 minutes or less according to a study that was originally done nearly 20 years ago but still is true today. The reason the burglars don’t spend any more time in the home is simple-they don’t want to get caught.
  3. Statistics show us that fewer than 5% of burglars are what we would consider professional. Most are amateurs who are unemployed kids who are bored to tears and are looking for a challenge.
  4. There’s less than a 10% chance that a home burglar will get caught unless the homeowner or one of his neighbors has video evidence of the perpetrator. As more and more people get home surveillance systems, perhaps the incidence of burglary will decrease.

Home Burglary Prevention Tips

  1. Make your house less inviting to burglars by removing potential hiding places around doors and windows on the first floor.
  2. Burglars don’t like dogs. Even if you put a sign in your yard warning of a vicious barking dog that may be enough to keep him away.
  3. Protect your valuables by putting them in Diversion Safes. They are items you would see around your home, particularly the kitchen, that are hollowed out to hide the smaller, easy to pawn items such as jewelry, credit cards and even larger items such as handguns.
  4. Consider installing a surveillance camera system around the perimeter of your house. Burglars don’t want to get caught and if they see surveillance cameras, they are likely to stay away. If you don’t want to spend the money, a less expensive alternative is one of our Fake Security Cameras that are so realistic looking that no one can tell the difference between them and the real thing.

If you follow these home burglary prevention tips, you will be way ahead of the curve in protecting your home.

$60K In Cash And Jewelry Stolen-How To Protect Yours

Police arrested two suspects in the Monroe, Connecticut area after a series of burglaries has been going on for close to two months. The two were caught after someone identified a vehicle that was used in one of the burglaries. Police later saw that car and put it under surveillance along with the occupants.

This isn’t exactly a secret but burglars steal items out of homes or apartments that are easy to carry and can be easily converted into cash. Jewelry and hand guns are at the top of the list right behind cash of course.

These two guys stole over $60,000 worth of cash and jewelry in the space of two months. That’s not bad work! That’s part of the reason why home burglary is such a lucrative business.

Fact of the matter is that burglars spend less than 10 minutes inside a home looking for things of value him like cash, jewelry and hand guns. If you can hide those items so that they are not found for say 10 or 15 minutes, chances are the bad guys will leave empty-handed.

One of the best ways to hide cash, credit cards and jewelry is with a Diversion Safe. They are common household objects that people are used to seeing everyday, BUT they have hollowed out insides to hide valuables in “plain sight.”

The Dog Food Safe is an example of a diversion safe you can use to protect your valuables.

Protect Valuables With Hidden Diversion Safes

One of the most overrated home security suggestions, in my opinion, is the use of traditional safes. I’m talking about the big, heavy safes that require a password or code to open. I recently read a tragic story about a couple and their son who were brutally murdered in their home. Day’s later police arrested the killers and the motive was revealed. The couple kept a very rare and expensive coin collection in a safe inside their home. After murdering the family, the killers made off with the safe, which they managed to open and remove the $500,000 coin collection. This is just one example of the ineffectiveness and danger of traditional safes.

Instead, why not invest in several small, inexpensive hidden or diversion safes. These ingenious disguised safes look identical to real, everyday household items. For example, a Coca-Cola can safe is the perfect hiding place to secure cash kept in the home. These safes look real and are even weighted to feel like the real thing.

Crime experts claim the average burglar will spend less than 10 minutes in a home. The objective is to get in and out as quickly as possible. Therefore, they are almost always fixed on the most obvious assets. It is unlikely that “Mr. Thief” will have the time or wherewithal to reach into the pantry and find your Peanut Butter diversion safe.

There are many diversion safe options to choose from. You can purchase a book hidden safe, a wall safe, or maybe a hair spray disguised safe! Each hidden safe has a secret compartment hollowed out to allow discrete storage of your most prized possessions in plain sight.

So how much does a diversion safe cost? Most are available for purchase between $10 and $20. For the cost of a traditional safe, you could buy 10 hidden safes to place strategically throughout your home. No one will know that the can of Pringles potato chips actually contains your finest jewelry.

One of the quickest ways to upgrade your home security is to invest in several disguised safes. Most are surprised and thrilled to find that such a safe even exists. If you have small, expensive valuables in your home or business, it would be wise to try these prior to investing in traditional style.
