Nationally, 32 percent of college-aged women — and one in five girls age 12 to 15 — experience dating violence, officials said at the announcement.
But one survey showed that 81 percent of parents didn’t think teen dating violence was a problem or didn’t know if it was, said Cheryl Pytel, a member of the Interval House board.

Teen dating should be discussed “the way you talk about alcohol, tobacco, texting and driving,” she said. “It should be that type of a conversation with parents, teachers, coaches, anyone who is involved with youth.”
Research also shows that children who grow up with domestic violence in their homes are more likely to abuse or to be the victims of such abuse later in life.
