Aussie Domestic Violence Crackdown

If you think for one minute the United States is the only country that has a domestic violence problem think again! Here's a story out of Australia, where police in Alice Springs have made more than 280 arrests as part of an operation targeting domestic violence. Read the whole story HERE. For some reason domestic violence seems higher in this central Australian city where "statistics show Indigenous women are 45 times more likely to be victims of domestic violence than others in the Northern Territory." During the first six months of the operation police arrested 287 people in connection with 774 domestic violence offenses. Just in the last week 14 more people have been arrested for offenses including aggravated assault and breaching bail. Police say they will continue to work with family and community members to bring those responsible for domestic violence to justice. It is not clear what brought this sudden aggressive action on domestic violence about. All we can say is, it's about time. Ending domestic abuse and sexual assault against women may be a pipe dream, but women need to learn how to defend themselves-which is reality.
